In recent days, many users have found an unusual application called “HP Smart” in the Start menu. It seems natural at first that this software is installed by default on all HP laptops and desktops, but the problem is that it also installs without it on other non-HP computers.
We are talking about automatic installation without your permission via Microsoft Store in Windows 10 and Windows 11. This logically causes a lot of confusion when you suddenly see an application in the Start menu of your computer that you did not install. You can check this yourself by searching for “HP” in the Start menu and seeing if it shows up.
Microso has stated that it is aware of the situation and is investigating it reasonably. According to Windows Latest, their tests concluded that it automatically installs on all versions of Windows, including Windows 11 23H2, which is the latest.
HP Smart is an authorized application in the Microsoft Store for managing printers of this brand that appear on HP computers. But logically, if you do not have an HP printer connected to your computer or devices from this manufacturer, it does not make sense to install it automatically.
We can easily find this application in the “Applications” tab on the right side of the device settings. It poses no threat to the device because it is not installed externally in a Microsoft-controlled environment. Apparently, we are also talking about an official application that does not do anything bad on the device.
Microsoft did not provide details, but it is aware of this issue, although we hope to hear more about it in the coming days or weeks.
