Samsung releases LLW DRAM… Random Access Memory (RAM) to improve mobile phone performance

At the beginning of the year, SK Hynix introduced LPDDR5T, a new form of RAM for mobile devices that improved performance by 13% compared to LPDDR5X. Although it seems that this is a new type of RAM that mobile phones will introduce in the coming years, it seems that Samsung has a different plan for its smartphones.

The South Korean brand has just introduced LLW DRAM, a new DRAM format that optimizes real-time data processing and improves performance when playing games or using technologies such as artificial intelligence or augmented reality. Next, we will tell you what this new type of dynamic random access memory (DRAM) is.

LLW DRAM is a type of very low latency dynamic RAM. This differs from the traditional LPDDR RAM used in mobile phones today because it contains multiple data input and output channels (I).

Another advantage of this new type of DRAM is that the LLW module will be integrated into the SoC (processor), as seen in the video released by Samsung. This means that Samsung will have to order custom versions of the processors used in its mobile phones from manufacturer TSMC, such as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 that comes with the Galaxy S24. In fact, it’s likely that this is why LLW DRAM won’t see the light of day until 2025, when the Galaxy S25 is released .

In summary, LLW DRAM is a higher bandwidth RAM that reduces operating time and power consumption. All this makes it ideal for playing video games or artificial intelligence and augmented reality models that require processing large amounts of data in a short time.
